The second world war brought chaos to South East Asia and to Bangkok. The Japanese occupied Bangkok and most of Thailand and used Chulalongkorn University as its’ HQ. The then Dean of Engineering, Khun Phra Chareon was thus required to move his residence, formally within the university. He purchased land in Sukhumvit Soi 1 and built what is now the centrepiece of the hotel – the original villa in 1942.

The house is still owned by his family. His granddaughter Khun Pariya Sheanakul and her English husband – David Lees working on behalf of all the family members were responsible in developing this heritage architecture in its best environment and spirit.
The Hotel took approximately 2 years to build and was opened for business at the end of August 2008. designed to be consistent to the architectural style of the main villa and appointed with quality local and imported materials – old re-cycled teak floors, antique and reproduction furniture, Thai silk drapes. Lush tropical gardens, designed by Khun Pariya are a welcome relief to the bustling, busy city outside the gates.
